The Synova Story

Synova’s journey began in the 1990s with the invention of the water jet guided laser at the Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland. Created to overcome the limitations of existing industrial cutting technologies, Dr. Bernold Richerzhagen founded Synova SA in 1997, making the patented Laser MicroJet (LMJ) technology available to high-tech industrial manufacturers.

Today, Synova employs 140 professionals, including 30 engineers dedicated to advancing material cutting solutions, exploring new applications, and enhancing laser cutting equipment. In addition to its research and development activities, the company assembles and tests up to 100 machines annually at its modern 3,100-square-meter facility in Duillier.

Synova has established key partnerships with leading industrial machine manufacturers for the production of LMJ machines, such as Makino. The company also cooperates with renowned research institutions, universities and industry leaders on strategic projects to further develop and expand the technology, including the Fraunhofer ILT and IPT, EMPA and Carl Zeiss Jena.
